ユーラシア大陸の東の端に位置する日本。そのほぼ中央にある奈良市に、西暦710年「青丹よし　奈良の都は咲く花の　にほふがごとく今盛りなり」と称えられるほど栄えた都、『平城京』が開かれました。国家発祥の地として政治・文化の繁栄を見せ、シルクロードの東の終着点としても知られています。

このような深い歴史と文化が息づく奈良市を拠点に、このほど『奈良前衛映画祭』を開催することにいたしました。東洋の良く知られた諺に「古きをたずねて新しきを知る」というものがあります。この言葉のように、私たちは悠久の歴史に学んでこそ、新たな思想・文化・芸術が生み出されていくと考えます。

「前衛映画とは、厖大な過去の時間と、あるがなきかの未来のアマルガム的錬金術の表現である」。

私たちは、時代を生きる先進的な創造活動を「前衛」と捉え、あらゆるクリエイターに向けて、創作と発表の機会と場を創設いたします。『新しい発見、新しい出会い』、『価値観の変容・改革・変化』、『驚き、興味、必然性』など、貴方の「止むに止まれぬ思い」を映像に託して、奈良まで届けてください。

21世紀の息吹を斬新な映像で切り取る作品が、世界各国、さまざまな地域から集い、ムービーロードを形成すると共に、極東の古都で多くの方たちと映画について濃密に語り合えることを願いつつ、『奈良前衛映画祭』の映像作品を公募いたします。

OUTLINE

Japan is located on the east edge of the Eurasia continent and HEIJO-KYO was built in Nara city which is located in central Japan. HEIJO-KYO was the ancient capital city of Japan and was described in the Tanka (a short form of lyric poetry) as “Nara, as a capital city, is now top of the glory as the blooming flowers are top of the flowering”. Nara city is known as the birthplace of the Japanese nation and it expressed the glory of both politics and culture and was also the east terminating point of the Silk Road.

“Nara avant-garde film festival” will open in Nara city as the central location. Nara has a long history and culture; there is a well known Oriental proverbial saying "if a man keeps cherishing his old knowledge, so as continually to be acquiring new, he may be a teacher of others." In this saying, we see that new thought, new culture and new art will be created by learning from the past.

“The avant-garde film is the expression of the amalgam alchemy of the long history of the past and the uncertain future”.

We look on the advanced creativity which lives in this age as the “avant-garde”, and we offer the opportunity and a place for all kinds of artists to display their creations. Nara city is looking forward to find? your “inevitable feeling” in your film, in which you will express “the new discovery and new encounter”, “the modification, reform and change of the new concept of value” and ”amazement, interest and inevitability” etc..

We invite public participation to deliver films for the first “Nara avant-garde film festival”, with the hope that many of art works will show great moment of twenty first century images; these will be delivered from all over the world and from many different areas, which will create the Movie Road. We are hoping to meet many people and to have deep conversations about film in the Far East ancient capital city of Nara.
